Family Field Trip

As an accountant by profession there isn't a whole lot of excitement I can share with my kids. I have watched my coworkers bring their teenage kids to work with them on occassion for some school event. Most of the time their kids sit idly in their office doing some mundane paperwork usually relegated to administrative assistants to keep them somewhat occupied.

It is at these times when I understand why there is a shortage of accounting majors in colleges nationwide. We are stereotypically as a profession white, middle-aged, anti-social number crunchers.

So it was with some pride and excitement that I invited my kids along for a field trip. I work with a variety of companies, but many would not make good 'field trips'. Their lines of business do no lend themselves to being interesting to a 10, 7, and 4 year old.

But I have one client that is different. This client is a wholesaler of bedding plants and flowers. So this client has acres of greenhouses that are filled to capacity as they are nearing maturity and headed to a big box store near you.

The owner of the company walked us around and told the kids about how they grow plants from a seed to a finished plant we buy at the store. He was also kind enough to invite my kids to pick out whatever plant tickled their fancy to take home with them.

So without further ado, I give you various pictures from inside the greenhouses of my kids.

Good for you Paul! I am sure the kids will never forget your trip! I am taking my 1st graders to Thanksgiving Point to see flowers too---I hope they look as happy as your kids look in your pictures when we go--although the weather says it will pour that day! Oh, goody for me!
Can't believe how big they are becoming!

Next time have one of the kids to pick those hanging baskets. Those are worth a pretty penny.

I remember going to work with Dad. It was thrilling to draw on the white board and look at the drawer full of corks in the lab. Yes, corks.
